Appreciating randomness
After a few weeks of social distancing I understand that I have undervalued the randomness of everyday life. Yes, I can schedule work, exercise, social events and even fun!
But it’s difficult to schedule randomness...the random encounter while catching a train, ‘bumping’ into an old friend in a coffee shop, experiencing sport, the weather, chance conversations with colleagues and strangers. Like most things in life, we miss them when they’re gone.
But perspective is key...I’m reading a book about the hellish experiences of Jewish Hungarians during WWII. And I’m conscious of all those people right now who are suffering as a consequence of COVID 19 and other scourges. So I’m counting my blessings too.
This brings me back to being grateful for what I have, the simple things in life and randomness with its endless surprises.
When this passes, I hope I remember to appreciate the freedom and pleasure of everyday randomness.
